Point-in-time recovery

Current status of point-in-time recovery in Parix.

Point-in-time recovery is not available in the current product.

Current state

The product has backup restore for eligible completed backups, but it does not expose arbitrary point-in-time restore.

The backups page should be read as two separate surfaces:

  • backup restore, which can replace the current database from a completed eligible backup
  • point-in-time recovery, which is not available yet

What this means for operators

Today you should treat PITR as unavailable:

  • do not design operational procedures around point-in-time restore
  • do not assume retained backup artifacts can restore to arbitrary timestamps
  • use eligible backup restore when you need to recover to a specific completed backup

Product contract

The current product contract explicitly says:

  • backup artifacts can be retained after database deletion
  • restore eligibility is tied to completed backup metadata and current cluster shape
  • PITR remains out of scope in the current shipped product

When PITR becomes a real product surface, this page should be updated with the concrete workflow, prerequisites, and recovery guarantees.
